Prawda w oczy nie kole

The author describes the entry of Bolsheviks to Vilnius, on September 18, 1939, later the passage of Mackiewicz through the camp in Wiłkomierz, his stay in Kaunas, the return to Lithuanian Vilnius and editing of “Gazeta Codzienna”, the re-occupation of Vilnius – and all of Lithuania – by the Soviet Union (June 15, 1940 ), again Mackiewicz’s departure from the city and his return to Vilnius, later occupied by Germans. Memories are presented chaotically, with some dates highlighted while others ignored. The work becomes an important historical chronicle of those years in a direct description of the famous Vilnius publicist and prose writer. The book was published in 2002, on the hundredth anniversary of the author’s birth.
