“Dear Lady…”

The title text “Dear Lady ..” is Mackiewicz’s open letter printed in “Wiadomości” (No. 1092). It was his response to a letter from the Institute of Literary Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw, which in connection with the Dictionary of contemporary Polish writers published by him, sent the writer a questionnaire with a request to complete it. The author refused to complete the questionnaire, addressing Dr. Czachowska (the author of the previous letter) with an open letter in which he gives the motives for his refusal and at the same time expresses the opinion that literature that is emerging in present-day Poland is not Polish literature.
